Professional Development
The professional development arm is an initiative unique to Asoc among the CBDs, with its roots extending from the 3rd management committee.
Professional Development forms an important part of the Accounting Community, primarily; its aims can be derived from its name:
Profession – As future accountants, we are all on the path to emerge as professionals. The technical skills and lessons that we obtain during our 4 years of study, within and outside of the seminar room, will make up our fundamentals when we venture out into the working world.
Development – Thus, it is especially important that in these 4 years, we are able todevelop our technical and soft skills, to prepare us for the demanding conditions that lay ahead, because on the professional level, nothing differentiates you more than the skills that you possess. Having or not having these skills will make or break your professional career.
“Be a part of the development initiative. Ultimately, the choice to develop lies in you.”
PD focuses on organizing extra curricular activities for the benefit of the students. We actively approach professional bodies and organizations relevant to the accounting course and collaborate with these parties to host or initiate talks, events, and programs which we hope will further the students’ interests and knowledge of accounting-related subjects.
To date, we have organized numerous talks, networking sessions, office visits, panel discussions, and many other events with the Big 4 accounting firms, banks, and other financial institutions.
