Our Logo
Official Logo
You might be curious about why is there a “1” at the end of our logo. This “1” actually has three meanings to it:
We are the very first school Constituent Body (CBd) to be set up in SMU. This was entirely student-initiated by the second batch of SMU accounting students. The interim committee was formed in December 2003, headed by Rigan Wong, following which, the first official executive committee was elected in August 2004.
We aim to be the first in everything we do.
Lastly and most importantly, we aim to bring all accountancy students here together as one.
Other Variants
In 2009, a new sports version of the logo was also designed to be put on our jerseys. In the sports version, a soccerball and a rockclimbing figure were added onto the original logo. A crown was added to the soccerball as we managed to win the annual Le Basi Cup two years in a row.

2010 – the formation of the ASoc Alumni Chapter
The Seventh Management Committee (2011)
The President’s Message
Dear fellow ASoc member,
The past year has been a successful year for ASoc and its members. ASoc has been awarded the Most Outstanding School Constituent Body (CBd) at the 2011 SMUSA Awards Night. The 6th Management Committee led by our previous president, Julius Chen, had put in sweat and tears, countless number of hours organising events, fighting for student rights, providing welfare and professional development opportunities for ASoc members. They had managed to achieve such an award as they had kept ASoc members at heart in every decision they made. They had implemented many new initiatives which had benefitted many ASoc members. The inaugural ASoc Social Night in September 2010 was a huge success, which was an evening of fun and socialising. They have also initiated the formation of the ASoc Alumni Chapter, which is an exciting new development in the history of ASoc. They have now set a benchmark for other CBDs and future ASoc committees to follow in their term in office.
When the 7th Management Committee took office on the 3rd of January 2011, we knew there were many great challenges ahead for us. Apathy towards student life is becoming a serious problem for student leaders. Students have shifted their mindset to become more GPA-centred and ignoring other aspects of university life. They have generally become less interested in non-academic activities and events. Lack of integration between local and foreign students is also becoming a grave concern amongst student leaders and this view is shared by several Professors as well.
Despite the many challenges, 2011 promises to be an eventful and exciting year ahead for ASoc. We have lined up many events and new initiatives to tackle the problems and improve the quality of student life in ASoc. There are currently working plans for two new events this year, namely ASoc International Students’ Welcome and ASoc Overseas Trip to Malaysia. This is in addition to our signature ASoc events which are ASoc Chinese New Year Dinner, ASoc Gala Dinner, ASoc Camp and ASoc Day. We are also looking to build upon the creation of the Alumni Chapter and form the first ASoc Alumni Executive Committee (Exco). The Alumni Exco will be set up by the middle of this year and will be organising an annual Alumni get-together dinner as well as Alumni networking sessions. We are also working to bring in more corporate partners to provide sponsorship for the welfare of our members as well as to co-organise career talks and company visits.
As much as we have all these plans in store for the year ahead, we would also like to hear from our members for feedback. I encourage you to give us any form of feedback so that we can continue to serve you better. Do drop us an email at accsoc@sa.smu.edu.sg should you have anything to share with us.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support to ASoc for these past years. We believe that “it takes two hands to clap” for us to serve you in the best way possible. We seek your continued support in 2011 and help us make this year another successful one for ASoc.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Danial Haris
President
